Vietnam has initiated a cattle farming project aimed at helping poor farmers in the southern province of Tien Giang to earn additional income from raising cows. Costing USD 0.86 million, the five-year project, which will end in 2017, will benefit 2400 poor households in the province. Of the total cost, 78% will be funded by the Canadian Heifer International and the Norwegian Mission Alliance Vietnam. There will be 600 farmers participating in the project. Half of these households will be given a cow/household and the other half will be given loans for raising pigs, goats, poultry or fish.
