The National Australia Bank (NAB) is predicting Western Australia will produce nearly nine million tonnes of wheat this season, making up more than a third of the nation’s crop.
NAB’s agribusiness commodities wrap predicts WA’s wheat crop will jump by 29 per cent, to 8.8 million tonnes, despite a lack of winter rain.
It is predicting a national wheat crop of 24 million tonnes but a 5 per cent drop in export volumes due largely to greater export competition.
The predictions of large yields come as the Grains Industry Association of WA predicts a total grain harvest in Western Australia of nearly 11 million tonnes.
