The wheat harvesting drive would start in the middle of the current month in various parts of Punjab. It is expected that record production target of 19 million tons wheat will be attained this year easily Sources in local Agriculture department told Business Recorder here on Sunday that overall wheat condition in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils is quite satisfactory and the fixed target would be achieved easily.
According to the sources Provincial Agriculture department has also finalised necessary arrangements for holding “Wheat Yield Competition” across the Punjab. The prizes worth Rs 125.775 million would be given to the winners of wheat yield competition of Provincial, divisional and tehsil levels.
The Agriculture department has received as many as 863 applications for the competition from Sialkot district as per Tehsil-wise: 237 Sialkot, 290 Pasrur, 188 Daska and 130 Sambrial.Sources disclosed that as many as 110 plots have been selected for the wheat yield competition in Sialkot.
Agriculture department has already finalised the criteria, procedure, and constitution of Markaz, tehsil, and district, divisional and provincial level committees for the competition.
At Provincial level 1st prize of tractor of 85 HP, 2nd and 3rd prize of 75 Hp tractors; at divisional level 1st prize tractors of 75 HP; 2nd, tractors of 65 HP and 3rd, tractors of 55 HP will be given to the winners.
At district level 1st prize of tractors of 55 HP, 2nd prize of Laser Land Levellers and 3rd prize of automatic wheat thrashers. In tehsils 1st prize is wheat reapers, 2nd is seed cum fertilizer drills and 3rd prize will be fertilizer broadcasters.
