The price of chicken meat in the last couple of days has declined by Rs40 per kilogram in the city’s retail market reportedly due to increase in temperature. Chicken which a few days back was being sold between Rs220 and Rs240 per kilogram is now available between Rs190 and Rs200 per kg.
Retailers claimed that rates of poultry items in the past couple of weeks have recorded a steep fall in the open market mainly because of their excessive supply. The poultry prices fluctuate under the demand and supply mechanism, they added.
According to poultry dealers, Karachiites consume around 400,000 poultry birds daily when their prices are high, but when the prices of live bird and its meat decline, daily consumption of the birds ranges between 450,000 and 500,000.
They were of the opinion that prices of chicken and its meat will further decline in the days to come.
