The minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fishery of Argentina, Carlos Casamiquela, announced this Tuesday in a press conference that the World Trade Organization decided that the U.S. should open its market for Argentinean beef without the possibility of an appeal by American diplomats. “Argentina will export beef to the U.S. within this year,” said Casamiquela.
The minister explained that there just a few steps to start the beef trade with the Americans such as the adjustments of normative and the enabling of some companies to import. Argentina does not export beef to the United States since 2001. Negotiations took place until 2012 and the WTO recognized that the health measure of the U.S. did not have scientific evidence. American agencies previously alleged that the mad cow disease was the reason for the ban, but Argentina was declared free of the disease in 2012.
